A labour & birth Doula is a trained professional that supports you physically, and emotionally during pregnancy, labor, birth and the first weeks with your newborn. A Doula will also provide evidence-based information, not personal experience or opinions, to answer any of your questions regarding you, labor and birth, and questions regarding newborn care. As a labor & birth Doula I believe; how we are meant to feel on the birthday of our children is just as important as having a healthy mom and baby because our experience will impact our emotions, our mind, and our spirit for the rest of our life. As Your Doula, I strive to make your experience a positive one. No matter where you choose to give birth. I will make that birthplace feel completely safe so you can relax and birth however you choose and with the people you choose.
GrowingMoms offers doula services to families in the Prescott & Russell, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry areas wanting a home birth, a hospital births or birthing at the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Center.
Feeling prepared, confident and calm going into labour is crucial for a smooth and positive birth experience. This starts with understanding your options and knowing your preferences. You can expect 2 prenatal visits of about 2 hours each either at home or in a place of your choosing. Here are a few topics that will be discussed during these prenatal:
The role of these prenatal visits is to create your birth plan with the help of evidence-based resources to assist you in making informed decisions through your journey to motherhood.
As your Doula, I will be on call and ready when you are to offer continuous support during active labour, the birth of baby, and the immediate postpartum period. I will set up the birth environment for you to feel safe and relaxed based on your visualization that was done during the prenatal. I will help your partner find his comfort zone so he can better support you and together we will work on comfort measures to keep you calm, relaxed, and to ease your discomfort. We will help you use movement to encourage the baby to rotate and descend as nature intended. All of this so that you can have a positive and empowering experience to remember. As a Doula, I am an important part of the team just like your partner, midwife, OB, and nurses, and I never replace any of these roles. I work for YOU, not for the hospital or your care providers. I support your choices and your birth preferences.
After the baby is born, I will stay with you and help you settle into your new role. If you choose to breastfeed, I will help you establish a good and comfortable latch. I will also be available to answer any questions you might have but don’t worry the support does not end there. You will have phone and text support and 1-2 Postpartum visit in the first 3 weeks in your new role at home.
